Highlights
- Aluminium narrow-wide chainring: the chain stays in place without a guide or roller, even on rough sections.
- Gravel-oriented 50 mm chainline: sufficient clearance for wide tyres and short chainstays.
- Standard 24 mm spindle: fits the widely used Shimano 86.5 mm Press Fit or 68 mm threaded bottom brackets.
- Four crank arm lengths from 165 to 175 mm: suitable leverage for different riders.
- Convertible to a double chainring: the chainring sits in the outer position, so you only need to add a small chainring.
- Two gearing options: 40 teeth for climbing with a loaded bike, 42 teeth for riding fast.
Description
The MICROSHIFT SWORD 1x crankset is the single-chainring crankset for the SWORD gravel drivetrain. Its aluminium narrow-wide chainring holds the chain without a guide and works with the rear derailleur’s clutch to help prevent the chain coming off on rough sections.
It fits a Shimano-type 24 mm bottom bracket, either 86.5 mm Press Fit or 68 mm threaded, and is available with a 40- or 42-tooth chainring and four crank lengths from 165 to 175 mm. Its 50 mm chainline is designed to provide clearance for wide gravel tyres.
Can you convert it to a double-chainring setup? Yes. The chainring is mounted in the outer position, so adding an inner chainring converts the crankset to 2x.
Which chainring should you choose? 40 teeth for hilly routes and loaded bikepacking; 42 teeth to maintain speed on faster sections.
